Privacy Notice
How personal data is handled on this website, and the rights available to you.

Who we are
This website is run by Vanclare SE LLC, which is the data controller for the personal data described here. We are established in the United States, at 166 Raintree Lane, Elkton, Maryland.
If you have a question about this notice, or about data we hold about you, email pc@vanclarepatent.com.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no cookies, whether for analytics, for advertising or for preferences. It also runs none of the following:
- analytics or statistics scripts that run in your browser
- advertising or remarketing tags
- social media buttons or pixels
- video or maps embedded from other services
- chat or consent-management widgets
No page loads content from, or sends a request to, another company’s server, so no third party receives your IP address when you read these pages.
We do count visits, and we do that from the web server’s own records rather than from anything running in your browser. What those records hold is set out in the next section.
Nothing is stored on your device unless you choose it, and nothing is shared with a third party, so this site does not need a cookie banner.
There is one thing you can choose to store. If you mute the alert banner, your
browser keeps a single value, vc-alert-muted, so the site remembers
that on your next visit. It holds the preference and nothing else, it is not an
identifier, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your
browser’s site data removes it.
What our server records
The web server keeps an access log, so that we can count visits and see which pages are read. Each entry records the page requested, the date and time, the response the server gave, the page you came from if there was one, and the identifying string your browser sends about itself.
Your IP address is shortened before it is written down. For an IPv4 address we replace the last part with zero, so 203.0.113.47 is stored as 203.0.113.0; for an IPv6 address we keep only the first two groups. The full address is never written to the log, and we cannot identify you from what is stored.
We use these records only to produce totals — how many visits there were, and which pages and videos were opened. We do not use them to build a picture of an individual reader, and we do not combine them with anything else. Requests for images, video, stylesheets and fonts are not logged at all.
The server may also record technical errors so that we can diagnose faults. We keep those only for as long as it takes to fix the fault.
If you email us
There is no contact form on this site. Enquiries reach us by email.
When you write to us we hold your email address, your name if you give it, and what you wrote. We keep that for as long as the enquiry and our record of it require. We use it only to reply to you, and we do not add you to a mailing list.
Who else handles your data
The site is hosted by Namecheap, Inc., which runs the servers for us and may handle the data described above only in order to provide that hosting. Our email provider handles email on the same basis.
Where your data is handled
Vanclare SE LLC is established in the United States, and the servers for this site are in Atlanta, Georgia. The data described in this notice is therefore handled outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on appropriate safeguards with our providers for those transfers.
Our legal basis
Where UK data protection law applies, our legal basis is legitimate interests: running and securing this website, understanding how it is used, and replying to people who contact us.
We do not use personal data for profiling, for automated decision-making or for marketing.
How long we keep your data
We keep correspondence for as long as the enquiry, and our record of it, reasonably require. Access log entries are deleted after 90 days. Visit totals worked out from them hold no address at all, and we keep those for as long as they are useful.
Keeping data secure
The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and access to the server is limited to the people who maintain it.
Your rights
Where UK or EU data protection law applies to data we hold about you, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of it
- have it corrected or erased
- restrict or object to our use of it
- receive it in a portable form
To use any of these, email pc@vanclarepatent.com. There is no charge, and we will reply within one month.
If you are in the United Kingdom and are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
If what this site does with personal data changes — if we add a contact form, for example, or change what the server records — we will update this notice, and the date at the top, before the change takes effect.
